Adolescents who have experienced physical, emotional, abuse or other trauma can benefit from drug abuse interventions, even if they are not addicted to drugs.
Many teenagers may suffer from symptoms related to painful and traumatic events, such as anxiety, stress, relationship issues, school difficulties, substance use, fear, and hopelessness. Teenagers can face mental and substance use health issues just as adults do.
In the U.S., over 16 percent of children under the age of 18 – or one in six – experience a mental health disorder, including depression, anxiety, or substance abuse. Early intervention can lead to better long-term outcomes for teens struggling with mental health or substance use issues. Therefore, it is crucial and important to seek help as early as possible.
